U.S. Resident Tax Assistance

Legal Services for Students (LSS) offers free income tax assistance and education to KU students who are U.S. residents. Tax returns will be prepared using 2021 income information.

Doing Your Own Tax Return

LSS recommends doing your federal and state tax returns on your own using TaxSlayer software. LSS can provide access to US Residents and Resident Alien filers for free. A link to this software will be provided at LSS Tax Filing Workshops and can be provided by email on request. To request a link to TaxSlayer software email us at legals@ku.edu.  NOTE: You do not have to be a KU student to use this free tax software.  It is available for anyone to use. The filing deadline is April 18th, 2022.

Filing is free of charge for individuals whose 2021 income was less than $73,000.
